High-quality tick-by-tick data is a must for proper Forex testing and practicing.
All our Forex software only uses tick-by-tick historical market data for simulations. We never interpolate the ticks from M1 bars.
We suggest you prepare test data yourself: it is very easy to capture tick data with free Online Simulator, which gives you instant access to dealable live prices for 10 main Forex pairs via free TrueFX WebAPI. Check the User’s Guide how to record the collected ticks.
For your convenience, here is a sample one-day GBPUSD tick data file that we collected from the TrueFX live feed.
You can also browse test reports on our blog – we have been sharing a lot of tick data that we test on.
This should get you started.
But if you want a bulk of data, a good source of free high-quality historical tick-by-tick data is TrueFX. They provide several years of data as monthly files for 15 main currency pairs. They only require a (free) registration.
NOTE: when you download a monthly file from TrueFX, you will need to convert it to the Smart Forex Tester format. It’s very easy: in the Data Manager, just load the file and save it.
We do recommend splitting the monthly files into smaller ones – weekly files at most. Check the User’s Guide how to do that in the Data Manager.
